Old Greensborough Walking Tour

South of the railroad tracks are a variety of shops, galleries, and restaurants that were constructed around the turn of the twentieth century. South Elm Street is lined with brick storefronts sporting ornate iron- and stone-trimmed facades, and elaborate cornices. The history of this well-preserved section of our city center dates to the era when Greensborough remained the accepted spelling of the city!

Learn about history and design on an architectural tour of South Elm Street and the Southside neighborhood. Led by Preservation Greensboro’s Urban Guide Ryan Gray, you will gain insights on Neoclassical, Italianate, and Gothic Revival architecture of the past, and examine neo-contemporary styles by Duany Plater-Zybert Architects. Tours will take a little over an hour depending on questions.
