Preservation Greensboro’s 51st Annual Meeting

This is a special opportunity to meet one of the nation’s most respected preservation contractors with a unique perspective on national preservation trends and techniques!

Ron Staley is a Senior Vice President with The Christman Company and leads the company’s southeast Michigan Operations as well as serves as Director of Historic Preservation with over 30 years of construction experience. He has worked on buildings in the Keweenaw National Historical Park in Calumet; five-hundred-year-old churches in Poland; Notre Dame’s famed Golden Dome; the Capitol of Virginia, which was designed by Thomas Jefferson and built in 1785; the Henry Ford Estate; Fort Mackinac; the US Capitol, including the stands for the 2009 inaugural; the former American embassy in Tangier, Morocco; and most recently, the Ernest Hemingway farm in Cuba “Finca Vigia“.

This meeting serves as Preservation Greensboro’s annual General Membership Meeting that will include the presentation of Preservation Awards.

Constructed around 1930 for Piedmont Ice and Coal, the structure later became the home for the Greensboro Iron Works in 1955. Recently refurbished by the Fresh. Local. Good, food group in 2015, the enterprise overlooks Morehead Park on the Downtown Greenway. The Park was named in honor of Governor John Motley Morehead, who’s land holdings extended from Blandwood to include all surrounding land. The 30,000 square foot building has been creatively reused as a food and entertainment multiplex. Well-known in Greensboro for culinary creativity at The Iron Hen in Fisher Park, the food group has established three dining venues in The Foundry in addition to The Public special event space and Hush, and after-hours Speakeasy! The multiplex has an industrial feel that includes high ceilings, exposed brick walls, concrete floors, and a sleek exterior. Ample parking is available in the private parking lot off Spring Garden Street, as well as on-street parking along Edgeworth Street, Blandwood Avenue, and Spring Garden Street.
