As a nonprofit, non governmental organization, Preservation Greensboro has been challenged in its 41 years of existance in making connections and getting word out using limited resources. Technology has helped lower the cost of producing Landmarks, our quarterly membership newsmagazine, and our website has improved the flow of information to the community. In spite of these improvements, the purpose of the organization remains misunderstood by many in the community who might have a limited perspective of our mission.
This weblog aims to change that.
I hope than we can shepherd a constructive dialog among citizens in Greensboro and beyond to better understand the importance of place, architecture, and history. Greensboro is fortunate to have a deep history, great architecture from nearly every period of design over the past 200 years, and a strong network of neighborhoods. It has one of the best preserved downtown’s in the state, two National Historic Landmark properties, over 4,000 structures listed enscribed on the National Register of Historic Places, a national military park, an international civil rights site, archaeological resources, and three historic districts. We certainly have lots to talk about…so lets get started.
